FED: Govt launches remote sensing educational kit
CANBERRA, Aug 30 AAP - A new educational kit was launched today to teach students and
teachers how satellite imagery helps Australian agencies make agricultural, disaster and
coastline monitoring decisions.
The kit, Discovering Remote Sensing, was developed by the Australian Geological Survey
Organisation (AGSO) and the Australian Surveying and Land Information Group.
"Satellite imagery has provided vital information about the earth's land surface, oceans
and atmosphere for 20 years," Industry, Science and Resources parliamentary secretary Warren
Entsch said.
"However, the technology used to capture this data is not widely understood."
He said the kit, which includes student and teacher notes and activities, would help bridge
the gap.
Students will also be able to undertake online exercises through AGSO's web site.
